Saudi Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has died, a State Department official told CNN on Friday.
There were no more immediate details about his death.
Crown Prince Sultan, thought to be in his 80s, was the minister of defense, and was one of the top figures in the Saudi kingdom. He's had various medical issues in recent years.
In 2009, he was in New York for surgery for an undisclosed illness. At the time, there was speculation that he had been suffering from a serious illness.
He has also flown to Morocco for more medical treatments.
