LASU STUDENT PROTEST

To protest a hike in tuition by the school authorities, student union executives of the Lagos State University (LASU), on Thursday, disrupted the ongoing second semester examinations in the school, as they chased students out of examination halls to join a protest.
The LASU students obstructed traffic on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway by blocking the road with a seized BRT bus and an articulated truck.
According to a bulletin(INFO/PR/LASU/1192) issued by LASU’s Information and Public Relations Unit of the Vice Chancellor’s office on October 12, entitled “Proposed Increase In School Fees for the  2011/2012 Academic Session”, new students admitted into the Arts/Education  faculty will pay N193,750; Social and Management Faculty students will pay N223,750.
For Faculty of Law, the proposed fee is N248,750; Communications/Transport will pay N238,750;  Science , N258,750; Engineering, N298,750; while College of Medicine students will pay N348,750.
The increase is more than a 700 percent increase from the current tuition payable by students in the school.
