HOLLYWOOD BLACK FILM FESTIVAL COMES TO NIGERIA

The Hollywood Black Film Festival (HBFF) has partnered with Bcommedia Nigeria Limited to bring the HBFF to the growing Nigerian film industry, which is popularly known as ‘Nollywood’.

Founded in 1999, and known in the entertainment industry as “The Black Sundance”, HBFF’s goal is to play an integral role in discovering and launching independent films and filmmakers, by bringing them to the attention of the industry, press and public.
The Nollywood Edition of the Hollywood Black Film Festival will take place from November 30 to December 2, at the Silverbird Galleria in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Founder and Executive Director of the HBFF, Tanya Kersey, said the Nollywood Edition of the HBFF will feature the festival’s highly successful conference series.
“Since its inception, I have wanted to take the festival abroad to educate and empower filmmakers throughout the African Diaspora.
“This is our first foray into global territories and we’re excited to kick-off our worldwide tour in Nollywood, the 3rd largest film industry in the world.
“Nollywood is a $250 million movie industry, churning out some 200 videos for the home video market every month and I believe the industry is ripe to begin distributing worldwide,” Kersey said.
The 3-day conference will prepare producers, filmmakers, screenwriters and actors for working and selling content in the global film market. Visiting filmmakers and industry guests from the United States of America will facilitate a series of panel discussions, workshops and master classes in a wide variety of subjects - from production to distribution and exhibition. Attendees will have a rare opportunity to hear from Hollywood insiders and engage in in-depth conversation and lively debates which will provide critical insight on a broad range of issues.
Some of the highlights of the festival will be: A master class to teach filmmakers how to produce quality films with high production value on shoestring budgets; a discussion on successful strategies for global distribution, where attendees will learn how to make films that meet up to international standards; a session to teach participants how to “Start Local, Think Global”, and make a successful move to Hollywood.
The President/CEO of Bcommedia, Charles Anosike, said: “It is important to educate Nigerian talents on the critical tools and information needed to compete successfully in the global entertainment industry.
“This initiative is based on the need to empower and bridge the gap between Nollywood and Hollywood and to encourage Nigerian talents to expand their careers beyond their borders.”
Sponsors of the Nollywood Edition of the film festival include the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, National Film &Video Censors Board, and Silverbird Group. 
The HBFF plans to take the show to Ghana, Kenya, South Africa and the Caribbean Island in the coming months.-DAILY TIMES
