President Goodluck Jonathan has announced the dissolution of Federal Government boards and parastatals agencies. He made the announcement yesterday evening at the inauguration of the committee on the composition of the boards of Federal Government parastatals chaired by Vice President Namadi Sambo.
Jonathan who described the committee as “the most powerful committee,” said, the former members of the various boards were not sent packing because they were incompetent but because it was the tradition to do so every four years.
Other members are Senate President, David Mark represented by Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, Speaker House of the Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar Baraje and the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, who is to act as the secretary of the committee.
Jonathan who commended the former board members for a job well done said, “It is customary that at the end of every four years, the boards of Federal Government parastatal, agencies are dissolved. The dissolution would have been done earlier but of course this is a continuous government. That is why we were not in a hurry to dissolve boards. But of course we have to review and reposition properly.
“We are formally inaugurating this committee headed by the vice president, one of the most powerful committees because most senior people from the executive, the legislature and the party (Peoples Democratic Party) are members.
“We believe that you will do this work very quickly. First and foremost of course the tradition is to ration it, go to the states and so on and so forth, then we will now call the state governors for a meeting. After that compiling of names will take place.
“I use this opportunity to thank the chairmen and members of the various boards that have served this country very well. We are dissolving the board not because they are not effective, not efficient but it is the tradition and it had to be done. So we congratulate them and urge them that when they are redeployed for those that would be redeployed, we so hope that they will use their experience to serve government in different capacities.
“The experience they have acquired this past five years they will bring it to bear in any other responsibilities that they are assigned and we believe they will do the best for this country.
“I thank you for accepting the responsibility and wish you successful deliberation.”-SUN
