FORMER GOVERNORS ARRESTED OVER N101BILLION FRAUD

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested the former governors of Nasarawa, Ogun and Oyo states early Thursday morning in connection with an ongoing investigation of fraud during their terms in office.

Femi Babafemi, the spokesman of the anti-graft agency said Gbenga Daniel of Ogun state, Christopher Alao-Akala of Oyo and Aliyu Doma of Nassarawa were picked by over allegations of a N101 billion fraud the commission is currently investigating.
“We've them in for interrogation over allegations of fraud,” Babafemi said. “Gbenga Daniel is being investigated over a N58 billion fraud allegation while Alao-Akala is in for N25 billion. Aliyu Doma is being investigated over an N8 billion fraud.”
All men ended their reign as state governors in May this year following swearing in of new governors. While Gbenga Daniel of Ogun state and Aliyu Doma of Nasarawa state spent eight years – full two terms – as governors, Mr. Akala only spent four years – a term.
The anti-graft commission will keep them in custody and will charge them as soon as the investigations are over, Babafemi said.
“I don't want to speculate as to when they will be charged,” Babafemi said. “It depends how soon the interrogation is through'' before they can be charged to court, he said
Unconfirmed reports though state that Daniel and Alao-Akala may have already been released on bail based on self recognition.
