Ojieh Onyebuch alias Buchi, Princess Dailola Adekoya , Benneth Daniel(MC Accapela, Olopade Abiodun Sheriff(MCAbbey), Nnwoka Daniel(Daniel D’Homorous) and Njoku Bethel Uzoma popularly Senator were among the six Nigerian stand-up comedians who were selected recently to fly the country’s flag at the on-going Montreux Comedy Festival. The festival kicked off on Thursday in Geneva, Switzerland.
The annual event which has been running since 1990, commands a worldwide audience and the theme of this year’s festival is “The American Dream.”
The comedians are being sponsored by TrendTV, the pioneer indigenous DTH service operator in the country.
Speaking at a dinner party orgainsed in honour of the six comedians, in Victoria Island, before they left the country for Geneva, the Managing Director of pay TV, Mr. Kalada Wilson said his company is poised to be part of the development of the country’s creative industry, especially, the entertainment sector.
Wilson hinted that the outing is an attempt by his company to take Nigerian comedy and stand-up comedians to the international scene, adding that “it is a lead towards wider interest as well as patronage in the sector. “Such events will also spur huge demand for made-in-Nigeria stand-up comedy content and sit-com programming internationally.”
The six comedians who enjoyed an all expense paid trip to the five day event by TrendTV, would slug it out with their counterparts from other parts of the world. They are also expected to stage comic performances around the theme ‘The American Dream’ to a live audience in Switzerland.
