The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Force Criminal Investigations Department, Abuja, Mr. Ganiyu Dawodu Thursday night died inside a hotel in Ikorodu, a suburb of Lagos in the company of another female police officer, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) reportedly serving in Rivers State.
The deceased police top shot who was in Lagos to represent the Inspector General of Police at a media function was said to have complained to his female companion about not feeling too well in the hotel room then suddenly lost consciousness and died before medical personnel arrived at the hotel.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of his death, one police source familiar with the matter stated Friday evening.
A carefully worded statement on the home page of the police force confirmed his demise saying, “The Inspector-General of Police Hafiz Ringim on behalf of the Police management regret to announce the death of DIG Ganiyu Dawodu NPM, mni.”
The local media reported that the police has opened a discreet investigation into his death to ensure that there was no foul play.
Police Public Relations Officer, DCP Olusola Amore did not respond to calls when our correspondent sought further information.-DAILYTIMES
