ASUU CHASES ESUT LECTURERS FROM OFFICES

LECTURERS of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT)who failed to comply with the strike directive of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) were yesterday chased out of their offices by the union’s monitoring team.

The defiant lecturers who were mainly of the Faculties of Management Sciences and Engineering were rendering academic services in their offices at the former Temporary Site in  Enugu, when the monitoring team suddenly showed up around 10am.
Chairman of ASUU, ESUT Chapter, Barr. Agu Gab Agu, led the four_man monitoring team that visited the old campus to ensure compliance. They combed the offices of some  Faculties still operating from the old campus and all the lecturers on seat were chased out.
The team also impounded project files found in the custody of the lecturers that violated the strike directive.
Agu’s team later moved over to the ESUT Permanent Site Agbani where lecturers fully complied with the strike directive.
At Agbani, the entire campus looked deserted as students took advantage of the strike by lecturers to proceed on Christmas vacation.
To show that the strike remains in force, Agu personally circulated copies of a resolution made by ASUU_ESUT Congress on December 8 to all the Faculties, reiterating its full support for ASUU National Strike that commenced midnight of December 4, 2011.
The resolution reads: “The strike is total and comprehensive and should be complied with fully by members. To this end, lecturers offices should remain closed and no lecture, seminar or any academic activity should take place during the period of strike, which is indefinite.
“Members are by this communication warned of the adverse consequences of trying to break the strike.”
The congress set up a strike coordinating committee, comprising all members of Executive of ASUU_ESUT and eleven others. Each of the ten faculties of the university is represented in the committee.-VANGUARD
