EX-EAGLES STAR LOSES HOUSE TO PHCN FIRE IN IBADAN

Ex-Nigerian international, Gbenga Okunnowo, on Sunday lost property worth millions of naira to an early morning inferno in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The fire outbreak, which reportedly occurred around 2.30am, was said to have razed eight vehicles belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company of Power Holding Company of Nigeria.
Other property said to have been destroyed by the fire were travelling documents, household items, and other materials.

The cause of the outbreak could, however, not yet be determined at the time of filing this report.
The Sunshine Stars player, who was still in shock as a result of the incident, said it would be difficult to determine the cost of the property destroyed by the inferno.
Okunnowo said he was awoken by the sound of an explosion from the neighbouring PHCN office before the fire caught the roof of his one-storey duplex located behind the electricity company.
“What I’m wearing now is the only thing that’s left on me, everything got burnt,” the former Barcelona defender lamented.
He explained that initially when the fire started the three occupants of the duplex came to assist but it later engulfed the whole building.
Apart from Okunnowo’s house, it was learnt that the fire, which started from the company’s control room, consumed eight vehicles, a canteen, a carpentry workshop and part of a church in the neighbourhood.
An eyewitness who preferred anonymity, said the fire started from the power generating room of the PHCN.
Another resident, Agboola Davies, who later spoke with journalists, however, said that the fire emanated from the car park of the electricity company between 1.30am and 2.30am.
Davies said he and some other residents tried to curtail the fire from extending to surrounding houses but it later extended to the footballer’s house.
