Wizkid is set to perform at the weekly Industy Night at  Oriental Hotel,lagos on wednesday feb.22 .

GODLY JULIUS ARRESTED 4TH TIME FOR ROBBERY

He is currently being detained at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, cell in Ikeja, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

The suspect, Godly Julius from Benue State, North Central Nigeria, resides in Pate village, Abuja but allegedly shuttles between Abuja and Lagos to rob.

CBN DONATES N25M TO MADALLA BOMB VICTIMS

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Monday announced a N25 million donation to victims of the Christmas Day bomb blast at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger State.

CBN Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who made the donation on behalf of the management of the apex bank, described the terror attack as tragic not just because it took place on a holy day or holy place but the fact that it was an assault on an entire faith.

A blast at Morocco road in Suleja town in Niger on Sunday injured one person and destroyed five vehicles.

Morocco road is at the heart of the commercial area in Suleja.

The people in the area became suspicious of a parked vehicle without number plate and immediately took measures to keep away from it before it exploded.

GUNMEN INVADE KOTON KARFI PRISON IN KOGI, FREES PRISONERS

The Nigeria Prisons Authority on Thursday confirmed the escape of 119 inmates from the Koton-Karfe prison on the Lokoja-Abuja Road after it was attacked on Wednesday night by unknown gunmen.

The Spokesperson of the Nigeria Prisons Authority in Lokoja, Mrs Hadiza Aminu,said that the inmates were among the 120 persons awaiting trial.

ABDULMUTALLAB KNOWS FATE TODAY

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 25, who attempted to detonate an underwear bomb aboard a Detroit-bound American aircraft on Christmas Day in 2009, will be sentenced on Thursday.

His sentencing, which was earlier slated for last month, is coming up almost 26 months after he was arrested.

If convicted of all counts, Abdulmutallab faces a possible life sentence; and would be moved from the federal prison in Milan to federal super-maximum prison in Florence, Colorado, where other convicted terrorists are kept.

OKOROCHA DECLARES FREE EDUCATION IN IMO STATE

Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, on Tuesday declared that no student or pupil of Imo State origin studying in any institution owned by the state would pay fees.

He also announced scholarships for all students and pupils of Imo State origin from primary to tertiary level.

Addressing a huge crowd at the Imo Freedom Square in Owerri, the governor promised to pay a scholarship of N100,000 to each student of Imo origin in Imo State University.

A 24-year old fake youth corps member, Abudei Florence Awele, who presented a fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posting letter to a telecommunication firm, has been arrested by policemen attached to Bode Thomas Division.

MADALLA BOMB SUSPECT, KABIRU SOKOTO RE-ARRESTED

A combined team of security agents on Friday morning re-arrested suspected Boko Haram bomber, Kabiru Umar aka Kabiru Sokoto.

Security sources said the fugitive Boko Haram kingpin and suspected mastermind of the Christmas Day 2011 bombing of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger State was picked up in a hut in Mutum Biu, Taraba State around 4am.

He was arrested along with his brother.

The Associated Press reports that Sokoto was arrested behind a clothesline in his home, where he was hiding.

When security agents tried to grab him, suspected Boko Haram members engaged them in a gunfight. But they were swiftly beaten back while Sokoto was arrested.

He was immediately flown to Abuja in a helicopter and kept in the custody of the SSS.

Spokesman for President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Reuben Abati, confirmed the development to AP.

A total of 42 persons were killed in the bomb attack.

He escaped from police custody after his initial arrest on January 14 at the Borno State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

SENATE ENDORSES POST UTME

The Senate has formally endorsed post-UME examination and maintained that inclusion of written tests in screening students by Nigerian universities is legal.

Senate, in adopting the report of its Committee on Education headed by Uche Chukwumerije, who investigated the alleged illegality in the conduct of post-UME as conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), noted it could not sustain any charge of illegality against the examination.

Ogun State Government has scrapped the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, while it has merged the four Information and Communication Technology polytechnics in the state.

The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. John Odubela, at a press conference in Abeokuta on Wednesday announced the scrapping of TASUED and merger of the ICT-based polytechnics in the state.

FEMALE BANKER SHOT DEAD

A  female banker with the United Bank for Africa, Damilola Sowemimo, was on Sunday killed by two gunmen operating on a motorcycle.

Sowemimo, 25, was killed while going to church in the morning. It was also learnt that she was killed in front of her parent’s house at 1, Agbor Close, Isolo Way, Ajao Estate.

A friend of the deceased, Tosin Adeboye, Said that the gunmen came on a commercial motorcycle.

She said, “On Sunday morning, Damilola (Sowemimo) was going to church. Her friends had parked on the other side of the road and she was attempting to cross when two men on a motorcycle appeared from nowhere.

“The bandits came down from the bike, snatched her phone and ransacked her bag. When they did not see any valuables in her bag, they got angry and shot her in the neck before speeding off.”

It was gathered that the deceased was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but later gave up the ghost as she bled profusely.

Sowemimo attended Federal Government Girls’ College, Oyo, and later went to Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, where she studied Microbiology.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone, adding that the police had started investigating the case.
