COURT REMANDS OYERINDE'S MURDER SUSPECT

David Ugolor, one of nine suspects arrested over the murder of Olaitan Oyerinde, Private Secretary to Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has been remanded in prison custody by a Benin Magistrates’ Court.
Presiding Magistrate, Francis Idiake said on Friday, that the court had no jurisdiction to entertain the case, and as a result remanded the accused in prison custody until the case is transferred to a court of capable jurisdiction.

Ugolor was arrested on July 27. The other accused persons in Oyerinde’s murder case are Garba Usman, Danjuma Musa, Muritala Usman, Umaru Adamu, Moses Asamah, Auta Umaru, Wilfred Iserhienhi, Hassan Aliyu and Idris Abdulhamid.
Counsel to the accused, Olayinwola Afolabi, told the court that a high court had earlier granted Ugolor unconditional bail, adding that a copy of the order which was served to the police was not obeyed.
The magistrate noted that he had no problem granting bail, and warned that it was in the interest of justice that a court order be followed and obeyed.
"Since a high court has granted the accused unconditional bail, it is only fair that he should be released unconditionally."
Idiake however said that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the case, and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody while the case file be duplicated immediately.
He also ordered that the original case file be sent to the Department of Public Prosecution and adjourned the case to September 27.
