The Federal Capital Territory Secretariat in Abuja was on Tuesday deserted due to the nationwide strike called by Labour to protest against the removal of fuel subsidy.
When our correspondent visited the secretariat where many federal ministries are most of the offices were shut.
But the Deputy Director (Press and Public Relations) in the Office of Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Tayo Ajakaiye, told our correspondent that a majority the workers were expected back in office today.
However, the HOS, Alhaji Isa Sali, appealed to the workers to report to their offices and continue with their normal duties.
A statement quoted Sali as saying, “The HOS has therefore directed all permanent secretaries to provide staff buses to facilitate easy movement of staff from various points in Abuja to their respective offices.
“Accordingly, he has enjoined all staff to take advantage of this directive to enable them to resume duties as the presence of security men around the various federal secretariats is meant to ensure their safety.”
The HOS also directed that all civil servants to wear their identity cards during official hours.
This directive, he said, was part of the measures being taken to ensure that civil servants had easy access to their places of work at all times.
He further said arrangements had been made with the Police to facilitate easy passage of all identified civil servants at the check-points around the various federal secretariats.
The HOS also implored all civil servants to “continue to perform their normal duties with diligence by reporting to the office as usual at 8.00 am and closing not before 4pm daily.”-punch
