Officers of the Lagos State Police Command are investigating a
robbery which occurred at the Ejigbo branch of Skye Bank on Sunday.
It was gathered that gunmen broke into the bank at about 1:13am. The
armed robbers, who brandished sophisticated guns, scaled the fence and
tied up the security guards attached to the bank.
They destroyed the wall of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and
carted away an undisclosed amount of cash in an operation that lasted
almost three hours.
The police were alerted after one of the security guards untied
himself and made a distress call. A team of anti-robbery police officers
were dispatched to the scene but they did not arrive in time to stop
the robbery.
The Lagos State Police Spokesperson, Joseph Jaiyeoba, said the police are on the trail of the robbers.
“About 3:15am on Sunday, we received information from the manager of
Skye Bank, Ejigbo branch that unknown persons had destroyed the ATM of
the bank. We promptly mobilised officers to the scene, where it was
discovered that the thieves had entered through the fence. They drilled a
hole through the wall of the ATM and carted away a yet-to-be
ascertained amount. We are on the trail of the armed robbers and they
will be arrested soon,” he said.
Jaiyeoba added that the security guards attached to the bank had
been arrested and the police had commenced investigation into the
incident.
