A suspected millionaire robbery kingpin who has a Sport Utility Vehicle,
SUV, and is constructing a hotel in a Lagos suburb, Tony Emobowasa, 31,
and two other suspects have been arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery
Squad, SARS, of the Lagos State Police Command
It was gathered that the Warri, Delta State-born
Emobowasa, Yusuf Yisa, 24, and Yusuf Mohammed, 26, were arrested at
their hideout in Iyana Ipaja, by a vigilance group who handed them over
to the policemen from Gowon Estate Division.
The three men were immediately transferred to SARS for interrogation.
In
his confessional statement, the gang leader, Emobowasa said the SUV
seized from him was bought with the money he made from burglary and
stealing about three years ago.
He said he was charged to a
magistrate’s court with breaking, burglary and stealing and was granted
bail and released from Kirikiri Prison three days before he was arrested
again for conspiracy and armed robbery.
When he returned from
Kirikiri, Emobowasa was allegedly arrested while operating as robbers in
a commuter bus (danfo) with registration number XD 822 ENG in company
of Yusuf Yisa and Yusuf Mohammed.
Those who have fallen victims of
the gang around Iyana Ipaja area include Oladeji John, Francis Ezeoha,
Akinola David, Benjamin Eruke, Uche Moeneke, Mukaila Odesode, Bright
Echendu, Remi Onyeocha, Adeyinka Kayode and a female, Tukuru Dayo, who
said she lost N28 million to the suspects. She has reportedly became
hypertensive after she was robbed.
In his statement, Yusuf
Mohammed from Kano State, who claimed to be a beef seller residing at
Agege, said the gang leader was paying them to loot women’s shops.
While
breaking into a shop, Yusuf said he was arrested by vigilance
operatives who handed them over to men of the Gowon Estate Police
Division.
Yusuf said he did not confess until he got to SARS later in the day.
The
third suspect, Yusuf Yisa denied being a member of the gang but claimed
the leader was giving him money and later sent them to go and burgle a
woman’s shop.
Since he was giving them money, Yisa said he had no choice than to carry out his instruction.
He said he was arrested the first time he went out with the gang to rob.
SARS boss, SP Abba Kyari, said the three men will be prosecuted in the court very soon.-PMNEWS
