Master Chudubem Godswill Tom, 13 months old, has a congenital heart
defect. His parents, Mr. Abochi and Mrs. Ngozi Tom, from Ariam-Eluelu in
Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State have appealed to Abia State
Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, to help fund their son’s open heart
surgery in India.
The distressed mother disclosed that all arrangements has been concluded for Tom’s open heart operation in India but, cried that securing the N3million (three million naira) needed has remained a great challenge.
Narrating what the baby has passed through since birth, the mother said Tom’s life has been that of pains. “Three days after birth, we discovered he had jaundice. So I took him to Airforce Hospital, Ikeja. Tests were conducted on him and we were told he had a heart condition. So, we were advised to take him to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital(LASUTH). The doctors there said the same thing.

“From there he was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). There, he was admitted for five days. Since then till date, we’ve been visiting LUTH and my baby has been on medication and we buy the drugs every two weeks. In December 2010, an echo test was run on him.”
Continuing, she said their search for funds has taken them to Governor Theodore Orji.
“We do not know who to run to for this help except God, of which we believe He can use anyone to save our son’s life, as He has been using people in other areas.”
“We believe Governor Orji sincerely wants to help. But then, we can’t just sit and watch our son die. This is why we have come to beg Nigerians to please not allow death snatch away our joy. We know Nigerians will not allow our son continue to pass through this pain. So, please, for God’s sake, in anyway people can, let them show some milk of kindness towards little Tom,” she said.
Tom’s medical report from LUTH, signed by Associate Professor/Consultant Paediatrician, Dr. C. A. N. Okoromah, stated: “We have enjoyed surgical outcomes for our patients treated at the MOIT Hospital and we are referring Tom to the same hospital.”
