After his most recent game with his club
Chelsea against Juventus, the midfielder was attacked on Twitter for
‘costing’ his team the game.
Although the game ended in a 2-2 draw,
Chelsea fans blamed the 25-year-old for giving the ball away just ten
minutes before time and also not preventing the equalizing goal.
After much pressure, the Super Eagles player deleted his account.
In a swift reaction, Chelsea FC released
a statement concerning the racist tweets and stated the London Police
have been duly informed.
‘We’ve been made aware of racist
tweets targeted at Mikel which are totally unacceptable, disgusting and
abhorrent. We’ve informed the police and support taking the strongest
possible action’, the statement read.
