Indications, emerged, yesterday, that the alleged man-eater, Clifford
Oji, who was arrested 13 years ago at Toyota Bus-stop on Oshodi/Apapa
Expressway, with human parts, which he reportedly claimed he sold to
notable Nigerians, had completely gone mad at Kirikiri Maximum Prison,
Lagos, where he has been awaiting trial.
Deputy Comptroller of Prisons, Mr. Noel Ailewon, during a visit by
the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade
Ipaye and representatives of the Office of the Public Defender, OPD,
also said 554 persons have been discovered to be awaiting trial in the
prison for several years.
The visit to the prisons was to evaluate the number of awaiting-trial
persons and possibly secure the release of those who should not to be
there.

LAGOS TO BEAR HEALTHCARE BILLS OF PATIENTS IN PRIVATE HOSPITALS
AS the strike called by the Medical Guild, doctors under employment
of Lagos State Government enters its third day; the State government has
offered to pick up the bills of patients referred from its hospitals to
private hospitals.
To this end, the state government has identified some private
hospitals that could offer secondary care to serve as rescue centres for
patients in critical conditions who cannot be handled at the state
owned-hospitals due to the strike.
Two hospitals around Ikeja area of Lagos, Shepherd Medical Centre and
Unity Hospital, have been designated by the state government to treat
all referral cases from LASUTH.

A premature baby thought to be stillborn was found by her mother, alive, after 12 hours in a morgue in northern Argentina.

LASU STUDENTS PROTEST DELAYED ACADEMIC CALENDAR
Hundreds of part-time students of the Lagos State University on
Wednesday besieged the state House of Assembly to protest against
alleged delay in their academic calendar.
The students claimed that they had been spending more time than necessary per semester.
They equally alleged that the school authorities delayed the issuance
of certificates to its part-time students who completed their
programmes, four years ago.
A member of the assembly, Mr Bolaji Ayinla (Mushin Constituency 2),
who addressed the protesters, promised that the House would take urgent
steps to address the situation.
Speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji was not available.
4 OKADA ROBBERY SUSPECTS ARRESTED, 2 AK47 RIFLES, 20 BULLETS RECOVERED
Four suspected robbers operating on motorcycle, have been arrested by
the police at 14, Oshilemo Street, Afromedia, Okokomaiko, Lagos/Badagry
expressway, while allegedly robbing residents of the area recently.
Items recovered from them include a Bajaj motorcycle, two AK47 rifles
with 20 rounds of ammunition, two magazines and a big pair of pliers.
Police
sources said a distress call was made to the police at Okokomaiko
Division and they responded swiftly and moved to the scene and arrested
the four suspects.

ARMY TO TACKLE BOKO HARAM WITH DOG SQUADS

Ihejirika in Kaduna on Tuesday said the Army would train a special
squad in the art of using dogs to fight Boko Haram.
The COAS urged soldiers combating the group in the North to be alive to their duties.
He added that the Army would inaugurate 14 speed boats to be used in checking militancy in Niger Delta.
Ihejirika spoke at a workshop at the One Division of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna.
He said, “I’m glad to inform you that
our second batch of our trainees on the use of dogs in the fight against
terrorism have just completed their training and will soon be launched
to join you to further make your work easier.”

MILLIONAIRE BANDIT, 2 OTHERS ARRESTED
A suspected millionaire robbery kingpin who has a Sport Utility Vehicle,
SUV, and is constructing a hotel in a Lagos suburb, Tony Emobowasa, 31,
and two other suspects have been arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery
Squad, SARS, of the Lagos State Police Command
It was gathered that the Warri, Delta State-born
Emobowasa, Yusuf Yisa, 24, and Yusuf Mohammed, 26, were arrested at
their hideout in Iyana Ipaja, by a vigilance group who handed them over
to the policemen from Gowon Estate Division.
PASSENGER STEALS ON ARIK FLIGHT
A passenger on Arik Air flight ,yesterday, was accused of stealing N200,000 from another passenger shortly after take off.
Sources
said that immediately the aircraft took off from Nnamdi Azikiwe
International Airport in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, and attained cruising
altitude, the passenger stood up and pretended to be looking for
missing items in the overhead cabin, but his hand reached for a
co-passenger’s bag and he removed N200,000 and hid in his pocket.
But
another passenger who monitored the theft alerted a cabin crew and the
business class thief was arrested and handed over to the police after
landing at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
Although
the identity of the suspect has not been disclosed, sources said that
the passenger sat on seat 3C on Arik Air flight W3 162 ABV-LO.
The Director of Security at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Sir Wendel Ogunedo, confirmed the incident.
He said the matter has been handed over to the police.
Air fares more than doubled last year in Nigeria with many passengers unable to afford them.
Flight capacity on business class has even dwindled further with fewer people still patronising it.
Business
class is distinguished from other travel classes by the quality of
