SON OF LATE CHIEF OBAFEMI AWOLOWO PASSES ON
Publisher, African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, the publishers of the Tribune newspapers, Chief Oluwole Awolowo, died in a United Kingdom hospital on Wednesday at the age of 70.
Oluwole, was the son of the late Premier of the defunct Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, he died as a result of the complications he suffered in a car crash about seven years ago. May his soul rest in peace (AMEN).
EJIKE THROWN DOWN FROM A TWO STOREY BUILDING BY INLAWS
A young man, Ejike Igwekile,was thrown down from a two-storey
building at 7 Rev Adegoke street Canal Estate, Okota, Lagos State
Nigeria, by his angry in-laws.
Ejike’s sin is that he allegedly
beat his wife, Nkiru, 27, from Delta State, southsouth Nigeria, and she
ran away with their only daughter to her parents’ house at 4, Iworo
street, Orile Coker, Lagos, barely a year after they got married.
According to Igwekile, who is from Okija in Anambra State, southeast
Nigeria, sometime this year they had a little quarrel and Nkiru took
their only daughter to her parents’ house when he left for his business.
He
said trouble started when their baby fell sick and his wife phoned him
to bring money so that she could take her to a hospital for treatment.
ABIGEAL AND REMI ARRAIGNED FOR CUTTING NEIGHBOUR WITH BLADE
Two women – Temitope Abigeal and
Temitope Remi – have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in
Ebute Meta on a three count of conspiracy, assault and grievous harm.
Abigeal (26) and Remi (28), both
choristers at a Cherubim and Seraphim church at Progressive Road, Ebute
Meta, were said to have assaulted Hannah Okurabe (18) with razor blades
at Abule Nla junction, a few metres away from the church.
The March 17, 2013 incident was said to be the result of an earlier fight over the church’s choirmaster, Joseph Unuigbe.
A father of two, Unuigbe is married to Folashade, who is also a member of the same church.
The charge read, “That you Temitope
Abigeal and Temitope Remi at about 18.30 hours at Abule Nla junction,
Apapa Road, Ebute Meta West, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District did
conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit assault and thereby
committed an offence punishable under section 409 of the criminal law
of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

HENRY OKAH JAILED FOR 24 YEARS
Nigerian leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta
(MEND), Henry Okah was jailed for 24 years by the South Gauteng High
Court in Johannesburg on Tuesday for his role in October 1, 2010 Abuja
bombings.
As he handed down the sentence, Judge Neels Claassen said:
“Effectively, the accused [Okah] is therefore sentenced to 24 years
imprisonment.”
However, Okah’s wife has indicated her readiness to appeal the judgement.
On 21 January, Okah was found guilty on 13 counts of terrorism,
including engaging in terrorist activities, conspiracy to engage in
terrorist activities, and delivering, placing, and detonating an
explosive device.

Can you recollect events that led to your kidnapping?
I noticed a car following me at a high
speed when I drove out of my office, moments after I closed for the day.
I increased the speed at which I was driving and I rolled up my car
window.
Very close to Jojein Hotel on Oba-Ile
Road, the road was very bad. So I had to slow down to manoeuvre through
the potholes. It was at that point that they levelled up with me and
blocked the car.
What happened after that?
I asked them what my offence was. I even
offered them my car keys but three of them armed with guns dragged me
out of my car and into their own car. One of them got into my car and
drove behind us.
Did you see where they were taking you to?

MRS COKER WHO LOST HER TWO DAUGHTERS IN A COLLAPSED BUILDING SEES THEM IN HER DREAMS
It was an emotional reunion when
68-year-old Adebisi Coker met friends of her late daughters last
Saturday. Coker lost her two children and her apartment when the entire
structure collapsed in November 2012.
The friends thought she died with her two
children in the incident but later learnt from newspaper publications
that she survived. However, it took them a while to locate where she was
moved to.
When they eventually did get her address,
the young women, who were secondary school mates and friends of Coker’s
deceased daughters – Bukky (30) and Toyin (26), set out to show love to
the grief-stricken mother.
Coker’s eyes were expectant, even though
the burden of her tragedy was unmistakable, when the group with our
correspondent entered her tiny apartment on Borno Way, Ebute-Meta, Lagos
– a temporary abode relations provided for her.
About 35 friends of Bukky and Toyin had
organised themselves and contributed money in order to ease the
suffering of the old widow.
Coker managed a smile as the group
entered the apartment. She made frantic efforts to make them comfortable
even though the room had only two plastic chairs.

You always perform every weekend. How do you cope with the home front?
I can’t really say how I cope. It is
just the grace of God. It is not by my might. It didn’t start today. I
have been doing this kind of job right from the beginning.
When was the beginning?
It was 14 years ago. I have been in this business for a long time.
In these 14 years, have you never felt like quitting?
I enjoy what I’m doing. If I weren’t
enjoying myself, I would have felt like quitting. But since I am happy,
that issue hasn’t come up at all.
I learnt you were a chorister. Which church was that?
I’m a Christian. Anyway, I’m a member of a white garment church. I was a chorister in the white garment church I was attending.
So you moved from being a chorister to a highlife/juju singer.
I didn’t really move like that. I was a
back-up singer at first. I had a boss. His name is Los Kenge. He was
very popular in Abeokuta. I spent about three years with him before I
went solo.
Why did you go solo?
My master (boss) felt I was very okay.
It got to a time both of us became the lead vocalists. Nobody could
differentiate between us because we were doing same thing; so he decided
it was time I went solo.
Why did you choose ‘Saint Janet’ as your stage name?
It was this same boss that gave me the
name. Those days, I was and of course, I still am a very shy person.
Then, whenever we weren’t doing anything, I would just be on my own. I
would sit quietly and not bother talking to anybody. People would be
complaining because they knew I wasn’t like that on stage. They would
say I usually behave like a quiet person but would turn to another thing
on the stage. My boss would tell them to leave his ‘saint’ alone. He
would call me Saint Janet. So I decided to stick to the name when I left
him.

PROFESSOR CHINUA ACHEBE IS DEAD
Nigeria’s literary icon and publisher of several novels, Chinua Achebe, is dead.
Mr. Achebe, 82, died in the United States where he was said to have suffered from an undisclosed ailment.
He died last night in a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. May his soul rest in peace.

Prophet Obadare, a blind Akure-based evangelist noted for the monthly
Koseunti Crusade, died on Thursday at the age of 85 at an undisclosed
private hospital in Akure, Ondo State.

Justine McNally, 18, duped the 16-year-old
into believing she was boy as they dated online - and carried on the hoax after
they met.
McNally, then 17, lured the London
schoolgirl into three sex sessions, promising they would get married and have
children.
The girl was even fooled into thinking
she had lost her virginity to McNally - from Glasgow - in a darkened bedroom of
a family friend’s house.
McNally’s secret was only exposed
when the girl’s mother found a STRAP-ON DILDO in her backpack.
She was sentenced to three years in
jail at Wood Green Crown Court this afternoon after admitting six counts of
sexual assault.
Sentencing Judge James Patrick said:
"She had her first sexual experience with you, and you abused her trust so
badly she finds it difficult to trust other people.
"It was selfish and callous
behaviour - a grave abuse of trust of her, her family and friends through your
behaviour over a period of years."

49 YEAR OLD MAN ACCUSED OF RAPING HIS DAUGHTERS AND GRANDDAUGHTER
A seven-year-old girl (name withheld), has accused her 49-year-old father of rape.
The girl said her father, Sylvester
Ehijele, had on numerous occasions had sex with her, adding that he used
to promise to buy her goodies and toys before the actions.
She said he usually had sex with her on a daily basis whenever her mother was not home.
She said, “Whenever my mum is not at
home, he grabs me, forces his hand over my mouth and then inserts his
penis into my private part. He promises to buy me a car, cake and
biscuit but he doesn’t buy anything for me.
“He also threatens to use a knife to gouge my eyes out anytime I threaten to report to my mother.”
Sylvester’s wife, Margaret, said their one-year-old granddaughter
that lives with them.
She said, “I am a caterer. In 2006 I
went to Abuja for a catering job where I spent five days. But at about
1am, my first daughter, who was about 17-years-old at the time, called
me on the phone crying that her father raped her that night.
“When I returned, I confronted him but
he beat me up and he continued to molest our daughter and each time I
confronted him, it earned me a beating. I had no choice but to leave him
when I got fed up with seeing him molesting our daughter and later
sleeping with me. I took my six children and we relocated.”
She said in 2011, Sylvester’s family settled their differences and urged the couple to reconcile for the sake of the children.
HOUSEMAID CONNIVES WITH FRIENDS TO ROB HER EMPLOYER
The Lagos State Police Command has
arrested a housemaid, Mary Francis, for allegedly conniving with her
friends to rob her employer.
The spokesperson for the command, Ngozi
Braide, said on the day of the robbery, Francis intentionally left the
door open in order to give the robbers easy access to the house.
She said, “Francis, Ogana Igwe, John and
Peter all planned to carry out a robbery operation in the house of her
employer. On January 4, 2013, at about 7:30pm, the entrance gate was
intentionally left open which gave easy entrance to the robbers.
“The two armed men ransacked madam’s
apartment having tied her up with ropes. The robbers carted away a Honda
Civic car, a laptop, N200,000 and $3,000 (N480,000), gold and jewellery
valued at N2m, five mobile phones.
