ALAMIEYESEIGHA FORFEITS ASSETS IN US

United States on Thursday executed an asset forfeiture order on $401,931 linked to former Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
This was sequel to a motion granted by US District Court Judge, Rya Zobel on June 13, for a default judgment and forfeiture order filed by the Criminal Division’s Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section.

MOHAMMED MORSI SWORN IN AS EGYPT'S PRESIDENT

Mohammed Morsi was formally sworn in as Egypt’s first democratically elected civilian president at Cairo University on Saturday. On Friday, Morsi took the oath of President in front of thousands of cheering people. at Tahrir Square.
Morsi is a part of the Muslim Brotherhood party and won Egypt’s first election five days ago by 51% to the 48% gained by rival Ahmed Shafiq.
Morsi has vowed to be inclusive of all Egyptians, including protecting the rights of women and the country’s Coptic Christians.

KIM AND KANYE VISIT KIDS' HOSPITAL

The couple were seen arriving at the Hollywood Children's Hospital to spend time with sick kids.
Kim looked immaculate with freshly blow-dried hair, a crisp white suit and a smile while Kanye kept things casual in denim, trainers and a trademark moody stare.
After spending several hours at the hospital, Kim tweeted: "Today is a good day!"

LAURYN HILL PLEADS GUILTY TO TAX EVASION, FACES THREE YEARS IN PRISON

According to TMZ, the Fugees frontwoman told a judge on Friday that she intentionally failed to file tax returns from 2005, 2006, and 2007, when she earned more than $1.8 million. In addition to prison time, she could be hit with a $75,000 fine.


When the judge asked Hill if she “intentionally and willingly” failed to file the returns, she replied, “Yes.”

SIR SHINA PETERS TO SET UP MUSIC SCHOOL

 Sir Shina Peters has announced he will soon set up a music school for those who want to empower themselves as musicians.
In an interview with HipTv, Peters explained ‘I want people to tap from my experience, how I created Afro Juju. So I’m trying to build a school, a music school you know.  This is the academic aspect of my profession’, the 54-year-old said.
And on the structure of school fees, in an environment where every form of good education comes at premium cost, the singer says it will be ‘affordable’.

POLICE ACCUSE OSHIOMHOLE OF LYING ABOUT ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

The police has debunked allegations by Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was behind the attack on his convoy during a campaign rally last Thursday.
Louis Odion, the state's Commissioner for Information, in a statement on Thursday, had claimed that the governor was attacked at Usen in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of the state by suspected assassins who shot at the vehicles in the convoy, and had pointed accusing fingers at the PDP.
Reacting, the PDP, in a statement, dismissed the allegation, claiming the convoy was ambushed by protesting students, and accused the governor's security aides of having killed some of them.

ADELE IS PREGNANT WITH HER FIRST CHILD

The singer today revealed she is expecting a baby with boyfriend Simon Konecki.
Adele, 24, released a statement on her official website saying: "Im delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together.
"I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx."
The Brit won Album of the Year at the 54th annual Grammy Awards earlier this year for 21, her second studio album.

The Hollywood superstars are splitting after five years of marriage.
Katie's attorney Jonathan Wolfe today said: "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family.

Katie, 33, and Tom, 49, have one daughter together, six-year-old Suri.

SAMUEL ETO'O ACCUSED OF TAX EVASION IN SPAIN,RISKS JAIL TERM

 A Spanish public prosecutor has accused Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o of conspiring to evade 3.5 million euros in taxes owed on income from his image rights when he was playing for Barcelona between 2006-2009.
The former Barca and Inter Milan player, now with Russian Premier League club Anzhi Makhachkala, is accused of four tax offences, each punishable with up to five years in prison and a fine of as much as 21 million euros.
The case presented by the prosecutor on June 15 at a Barcelona court, and which was seen by Reuters on Thursday, asks a judge to open proceedings against the player before the statute of limitations on one of the alleged offences expires on Saturday.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday, survived an assassination attempt when gunmen attacked his motorcade while he was campaigning at Usen town, Ovia South West Local Government Area of the state.
Oshiomhole, who is vying for a second term in office as the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), had visited the traditional ruler of Usen, Oluogbe II, and was on his way back when the attack occurred.

Former Governor of Lagos State and national leader of the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu made this assertion while receiving an award by the National Conference of Black Mayors, based in America in his office.

Snoop Dogg was detained at an airport in Norway today after authorities allegedly found him in possession of marijuana.
The rapper, 40, was stopped at customs at the Kjevic Airport in Kristiansand where customs officers are said to have discovered eight grams of the drug, according to TMZ.

JONATHAN FIRES NNPC BOSS, AUSTEN ONIWON,NAMES ANDREW YAKUBU AS REPLACEMENT

President Goodluck Jonathan has fired the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Austen Oniwon, and other top officials of the corporation.
Mr. Oniwon was sacked along other top management of the corporation in a sweeping move by Mr. Jonathan.
The NNPC management has been involved in several scandals including the petroleum subsidy payment scandal.
Part of the recommendations of the Farouk Lawan committee report by the House of Representatives is the removal of Mr. Oniwon and the NNPC management.
Andrew Yakubu, an engineer, has been appointed Mr. Oniwon's replacement.

Raggae superstar Majek Fashek has just signed a 15 million naira recording contract. This deal is with a Nigerian based record label, A PLUS Recording and Awards company.The deal which will last for two years would see him embarking on an international tour to countries such as Spain, Italy and many more, in July.

NUC SUSPENDS PART TIME PROGRAMMES IN UNIVERSITIES

The National Universities Commission  on Monday announced the suspension of all Part-Time Programmes run by universities in the country.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, also announced the results of accreditation of courses run by the National Open University of Nigeria.
Okojie said the suspension of the part- time programmes was to enable the regulatory body “streamline’’ them.

A 22-year-old Nigerian, Emmanuel Ohuabunwa, has made history at John Hopkins University, United States of America.  Ohuabunwa from Arochukwu, Abia State, has done the nation proud by becoming the first black man to make a Grade Point Average of 3.98 out of 4.0 to bag a degree in Neurosciences in the university. 23 YEAR OLD WOMAN ARRESTED FOR CALLING EX HUSBAND A MEMBER OF THE BOKO HARAM SECT ON FACEBOOK

A 23-year old mother of one has been arrested by policemen from Ipaja Police Station, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, for calling her ex-husband a member of the Boko Haram sect on Facebook, the social interaction site on internet.
The suspect, Afolakemi Mojisola Adeniyi, was arrested following a complaint lodged at the station by her former husband, Alfa Umar Gobir, that his ex-wife posted his picture on facebook and tagged him a member of the Boko Haram.

COURT INTERIM ORDER BARS RENAMING OF UNILAG

A Federal High Court in Lagos has accepted an interim order preventing the Federal Government from renaming the University of Lagos.
Justice Stephen Adah, who granted the order on Monday, was ruling in the suits brought against the May 29, 2012 renaming of the institution by the students and alumni.
The court directed the litigants to complement the suits into one and adjourned further hearing till July 4.
The defendants in the suits are UNILAG, the UNILAG Governing Council, the UNILAG Senate, the Attorney-General of the Federation and the National Assembly.

The reports quoted Chris Okotie to have said, "Stephanie and I are no longer married. We have separated.
