Emmanuel Okujo, a police corporal who allegedly kidnapped his teenage lover and shot her sister, has been dismissed from the force.
Police say Okujo will also be tried for attempted murder.
On February 10, 2012, Okujo allegedly shot Blessing Isabor and disappeared with her sister, Patience, 17, for three months.
Following his arrest, Okujo denied the allegations, insisting that he accidentally shot Blessing.
He also denied kidnapping Patience, saying she eloped with him after his gun accidentally discharged and the bullet hit her sister.
The claim was supported by Patience, who said she willingly followed Okujo because she was pregnant for him.
“Blessing was hurt (by the bullets that accidentally discharged) but we were scared, so that was how I ran away with him because of my pregnancy," she said.
Okujo was attached to Ifako police station before his dismissal from the police on Wednesday, after an orderly room trial indicted him for shooting Ms. Irabor with his police rifle.
The incident happened at the sisters’ Bariga apartment in the state, and Blessing is still receiving treatment for the gunshot wounds sustained on her face and hands.
Police spokesperson, Joseph Jaiyeoba, confirmed Okujo's dismissal, adding that the "law is no respecter of persons."
"He is still in our custody and he will be facing prosecution for the attempted murder of Blessing Isabor,” Jaiyeoba said.
He added that Patience, Okujo’s lover will also be prosecuted for conspiracy to commit murder.
"The lady (Patience) was around when her elder sister was shot and she ran away with her lover leaving the sister in the pool of her blood," he said.
"However, she has been granted bail on medical ground because she is pregnant."
Reacting to the incident, Steven Isabor, the victim's uncle, said the family had abandoned Patience to her fate for conniving with her lover to hurt her sister.
“We have been on this matter from day one when the incident happened and we are not relenting until justice is done,” he said.
