ANOTHER TWIN BOMB EXPLOSIONS ROCK JOS

One person was killed and 14 others injured in three consecutive bombs that hit some parts of Jos on Saturday night.
The Plateau State Police Command told newsmen that the explosions occurred separately at Tina Junction, Odus and City of David, all around Bauchi Ring Road in Jos North.

``Two persons were injured at City of David, four at Tina Junction, while one died and seven were injured at Odus,'' the Command's Public Relations Officer, Apev Jacob, said.
He said that the three explosions, which occurred at local football viewing centres were caused by timed improvised explosive devices.
``DCP Umar Gwadabe has led a team of anti-bomb squad to the scenes of the explosions and even recovered a timed explosive device at Odus.
``Already, the injured have been rushed to Jos University Teaching Hospital, Bingham University Teaching Hospital, and Plateau Specialist Hospital,'' he said.
Jacob said, however, that no arrests had been made, but added that the command had begun investigation into the blasts.
He advised members of the public to be ``vigilant and watchful'' while watching soccer matches as the blasts were planted at the viewing centres when the fans were carried away in the matches.
The Military Special Task Force (STF) in charge of security in Plateau also confirmed the blasts, but urged all law abiding citizens to go about their lawful activities without fear as security agencies were on top of the situation.
``Any act of lawlessness shall be met with the full weight of the law,'' the STF said in a statement signed by Ikemefuna Okafor, its media and information officer.
Mr Panpe Manasseh, the Chairman, Plateau chapter of the Red Cross Society, told reporters that two of the four injured persons taken to Bingham Hospital, had been treated and discharged.
Meanwhile the Plateau government has condemned the blasts which it described as ``acts to deliberately instil fear into the minds of the people''.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Yiljap Abraham, iin told NAN that it was ``shocking'' that some people were still bent on ``causing maximum injury to civilians'' in spite of the general resolve to live in peace.
Abraham urged members of the public to be vigilant wherever they were gathered and report suspicious movements and items to relevant security authorities.
